Are There Any Side Effects or Risks in Thread Lifting?

It is essential to recognise that thread lifting is a medical procedure with potential risks and complications. However, it is reversible, and any problems that may arise are usually temporary and can be addressed. Should you encounter any issues, it is best to consult your treating doctor first, as they are familiar with the placement pattern of your threads.

Potential Risks and Complications

  1. Mild Discomfort and Pain: These symptoms typically subside within a few days after the procedure.
  2. Swelling and Bruising: These effects generally resolve within a week or two. Although rare, a haematoma might occur.
  3. Skin Gathering and Temporary Asymmetry: These conditions might occur but generally improve as the swelling and bruising decrease.
  4. Visible Threads: Threads beneath the skin may become visible and cause skin dimpling if not positioned correctly or if too much tension is applied. This can be resolved through subcision or by removing the threads.
  5. Infections: Infections can typically be treated with antibiotics. In some cases, removing thread segments from the infected area may be necessary to resolve the infection.
  6. Thread Displacement: Threads rarely move from their original placement or break through the skin, requiring removal or repositioning.
  7. Temporary Nerve Irritation: Nerve irritation caused by procedural trauma and swelling may cause temporary tingling or a “pins-and-needles” sensation. Permanent weakness or numbness is rare.
  8. Granuloma Formation: Small lumps can form under the skin as the body reacts to the threads.
  9. Scarring: The needle or cannula entry points are less than 2mm in diameter, so they usually do not leave a noticeable scar.
